You Are Your Own Lost Love

At its heart, YOU Are Your Own Lost Love is not a book about pain, loss, and illness - it is a book about awakening.

Although my journey through life-threatening leukemia, multiple near-death experiences, and a long road of recovery forms an important thread throughout the memoir, the illness itself is not the destination. It became the doorway.

When I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, my life was suddenly reduced to what truly mattered. The identities I had carefully built - as a healthcare provider, caregiver, achiever, mother, teacher, and helper, could no longer define me. Standing so close to death stripped away perfectionism, fear, control, and the lifelong search for external validation. What remained was a quiet but unmistakable truth: love is not something we earn or find. It is the essence of who we already are.

Yet this awakening did not begin with cancer. It had been unfolding for decades through meditation, time spent in the mountains and the natural world, raising four sons, navigating heartbreak and divorce, healing childhood wounds, and learning the difficult practice of forgiveness - both of others and of myself. Cancer simply illuminated what life had been teaching all along.

Throughout the book, readers witness the gradual unfolding of this realization: that healing is far more than the absence of disease. It is the courageous journey of returning to ourselves. It is learning to stop abandoning our own hearts, to release the stories that tell us we are unworthy, and to remember the wholeness that has always existed beneath fear.

If there is one message I hope readers carry with them, it is this: no matter what you have endured - illness, grief, trauma, loss, or disappointment - you have not lost yourself. Beneath every experience, your true nature remains whole, worthy, and deeply loved. The journey home is not about becoming someone new; it is about remembering who you have always been.
